Scientific ellipsometer are designed as modular constructions, so that the instruments can be modified to fulfill requirements of customers.
Basic instruments are available in versions with different precision. The instruments can be equipped with automatic goniometers and/or x,y-stages (up to 2 m). Rotators can also be implemented.
Additional to instruments, that are used primarily for measurement of refractive index and thickness are also instruments for the measurement anisotropies up to biaxial nano-anisotropy available.
For the measurement of binding kinetics of supramolecules are special ellipsometer versions available. These instruments can show a sensitivity of up to 0.000001 nm for gold-marked antibodies. This corresponds with a surface load of about 112 antibodies/mm2. After implementation of a focusing unit single antibodies can be measured.
